Siddaganga Mutt seer Shivakumara Swami, 111, who was admitted to BGS Gleneagles Global Hospitals on Saturday, with fever owing to an infection and obstruction in the bile duct, was discharged on Monday morning.

Ravindra B.S., chief of Medical Gastroenterology at the hospital (who is treating the seer), told The Hindu that the fresh blockage in the duct was opened through another stenting procedure endoscopically on Sunday. “The concern is about sepsis that the seer had developed secondary to the infection in the bile duct and gall bladder,” the doctor said.

“The seer has chronic pancreatitis and this is the reason for the frequent blockage in the bile duct. He does not have diabetes or blood pressure and his heart functioning is also good,” the doctor said.

Following an evaluation, the seer underwent an endoscopic retrograde cholangio pancreatography as his CRP (infection marker) was high on Sunday. He successfully underwent the procedure and two more stents were placed in the common bile duct on Sunday. This is the 6th time that he has undergone the procedure, the doctor said, adding that the seer has 10 stents now. He withstood the procedure well.

The seer was discharged after a repeat of blood tests, ultrasound scan and close observation overnight. He will continue to be on medication for the next few days and will be constantly monitored by the mutt doctors in Tumkuru, in consultation with Dr. Ravindra, said a statement from the hospital.
