The video captivated social media... a man desperately peering down through a subway grate in Times Square Friday, after his fiancee's engagement ring fell through it.
But now, the case is closed and has a happy ending.
The NYPD says it has successfully tracked down the couple -- John Drennan and Daniella Anthony -- tourists who were visiting from the UK and have since returned to their home country.
The department is now working on getting the ring back to them after officers found it in the sewer beneath the grate.
SOUNDBITE: NYPD DETECTIVE JOSEPH BUCCHIGNANO, SAYING: "It's like finding a needle in a haystack because you know have been on plenty of these searches and we haven't come up with anything unfortunately.
Fortunately this one has a good ending to it." The NYPD appealed to social media users over the weekend to help identify the newly engaged couple.
And people around the world pulled through, retweeting the video more than 20,000 times, managing to reach the pair in the UK.
The initial story was that the man had just proposed and accidentally dropped the ring down the grate.
Turns out the man actually popped the question earlier in the day in Central Park, but the ring was too big and fell off his fiance's finger while they were walking in Times Square.
