A stray dog sustained a bullet injury while chasing two bike-borne assailants who allegedly robbed a 24-year-old man of ₹15,000 at gunpoint in north-east Delhi’s Seelampur on Sunday afternoon.
The police said the canine is out of danger.
They received a call at 3.30 p.m. about a dog being shot at.
Held at gunpoint
On reaching the spot, the victim, Ravi Kumar Rathore, allegedly told the police that he was crossing Gautampuri when two men on a motorcycle asked him to stop.
“The accused were wearing helmets. They pointed a gun at Mr. Rathore and asked him to part with valuables. They robbed him of ₹15,000 and fled the spot,” said a senior police officer.
The stray dog present there then started chasing the accused when the pillion rider fired a shot on the ground, which hit the animal in the leg.
The dog immediately collapsed but was conscious, they added.
The first PCR call was made regarding the dog and the second stated the robbery.
“The dog was in pain and did not allow anyone to touch her. But the police team managed to take her to a veterinary hospital where she is undergoing treatment. She had given birth to four puppies three days ago,” the officer said.

A case under Sections 392 (punishment for robbery), 397 (robbery with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt), 429 (mischief by killing or maiming cattle of any value or any animal of the value of ₹50), 34 (common intention), Arms Act and 11 Cruelty to Animal Act has been registered, the police said, adding that the accused will soon be arrested.
