Wu, the truck driver surmised that the back draft had probably blown the still lit butt on to the back of his truck.
Did you hear about the smoking truck driver who set his own truck on fire? It’s not that he was hot, but his butt was indeed on fire.
A truck billowing thick clouds of smoke and engulfed with flames on the back of its carriage, careered across a motorway in Zhangzhou, located in China’s southeast Fujian province, before coming to a halt near a toll station, according to local media reports.
Fujian Transportation Radio stated that workers from the toll station and other people turned Good Samaritans after they dashed to the rescue, suffocating the flames with fire extinguishers. Some plastic cages and two bicycles were damaged in the fire.
The driver, who was referred to only by his surname Wu, admitted that he had smoked a cigarette, and had thrown its butt out of the truck window. He surmised that the back draft had probably blown the still lit butt on to the back of his truck.
According to the , investigators ruled out self-ignition as the cause because the rest of the truck was intact. Self-ignition usually occurs in the front and middle part of a vehicle.
