A railway gatekeeper, Manimaran, has alleged that AIADMK MP M. Udhayakumar, assaulted him for not opening the gate at a level crossing at Alagampatti near Ambaturai on Sunday.
However, the police said that the MP had given a written complaint with the Ammainaickanoor police station claiming that Mr. Manimaran assaulted him when he questioned him for using a mobile phone while operating the gate.
Complaining of chest pain due to the attack, the MP was admitted to the primary health centre at Ammainaickanoor around 8.45 p.m., the police said. Southern Railway Mazdoor Union Madurai divisional secretary, J.M. Rafi, said the MP had insisted that the gatekeeper open the gate to allow him.
However, Mr. Manimaran said the automatic gate gets locked once the green signal for the train is given. The MP, who had waited at the gate, assaulted the gatekeeper after the Tiruchendur-Palaghat Passenger Express passed through at 5.30 p.m., Mr. Rafi added.
