HYDERABAD: Keesara police registered a case against five YouTube news channel workers for allegedly spreading rumours against local journalists through a messaging service. On November 27, an argument ensued between reporters of local TV channels and five YouTube channel workers at Nitin Hospital, police said. “The hospital staff advised the family of a woman patient to shift her to a bigger facility for required treatment. However, some people who work for YouTube news channels stopped the woman’s family to record their statements. Meanwhile, local TV channel reporters reached the spot and they asked the YouTube channel workers to let the family go as patient’s condition might become critical,” Keesara inspector B Prakash said.

After an argument between the two groups, the woman’s family managed to shift her to a corporate hospital with the assistance of reporters of TV channels. On Saturday, TV channel reporters lodged a complaint with Keesara police alleging that YouTube channel workers — Mallesh, Arun Kumar, Venu Gopal, Ramanjaneyulu and Shankar — had spread corruption rumours on WhatsApp with an intention to defame them. Based on the complaint, police registered a case under Sections 290, 341, 500 and 506 of IPC.
