NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday hit back at Congress president Rahul Gandhi saying that even the rishi and muni (Hindu sages) did not have complete knowledge of Hinduism.
Addressing a rally in Rajasthan's Jodhpur, PM Modi said that the voters will have to decide if they are going to vote on the issue of development or people who question his religious identity.
"Now, during elections they are saying that Modi doesn't have the knowledge of Hinduism. Is Rajasthan going to vote on the issue that Modi has the knowledge (on Hinduism) or not? Rajasthan wants to vote on the issues of electricity, water and road, or does it want to vote on the issue of Modi's knowledge of Hinduism? he said.
The Prime Minister was apparently responding to Congress president's earlier remark + where he had asked what kind of Hindu he (PM Modi) is that he doesn't understand the foundations of Hinduism.
"It is fascinating for me what the essence of Hinduism is. You please study Hinduism. What does Gita say? It says that knowledge is with everybody. Knowledge is all around you. Our Prime Minister says that I am a Hindu but he does not understand the foundation of Hinduism," Rahul had said.
Today, the Prime Minister hit back saying that it is not possible for a human to have a complete knowledge and understanding of the centuries old Hindu religion.
“This (Hinduism) is so large that it is not possible for humans alone to understand it completely. I can never claim to be in complete possession of this knowledge, only 'naamdaars' (Gandhi family) can do so," the PM said.
The Congress, Modi alleged, has become a university for spreading lies. People who lie more get new posts in the party, he said.
Rahul Gandhi, he asserted, has great capacity for speaking lies.
"The Congress' dreams have been crushed in all states. This will happen in Rajasthan also," he said.
The opposition party thinks it can come to power because of the trend in Rajasthan of alternate parties forming government but this will be proved wrong in the upcoming state elections, Modi declared.
