CHENNAI: Congress MLAs on Monday urged speaker P Dhanapal to convene an assembly session to discuss several issues, including relief and restoration work in cyclone Gaja-affected districts of Tamil Nadu.

Congress MLAs, led by legislature party chief K R Ramasamy, called on the speaker at the secretariat and submitted a memorandum.


They also called on chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and donated their one month’s salary for cyclone relief work. They presented a cheque to the chief minister.


The CPM on Monday donated Rs 10 lakh to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund for cyclone relief work. CPM leaders, led by party's state secretary K Balakrishnan, called on the chief minister and presented a cheque for Rs 10 lakh.


The party said its wings had collected relief materials worth Rs 60 lakh and distributed them in the cyclone-hit delta districts.
