People living on Noyyal river banks in Coimbatore seek more time to vacate
Pratiksha Ramkumar | TNN | Dec 3, 2018, 14:22 ISTCOIMBATORE: A few residents of Kamakshipuram in Irugur, located on the banks of the Noyyal river, brought around five children wearing school uniforms to meet the Coimbatore district collector on Monday.
The residents, who have all been issued notices to vacate their houses and move to housing board apartments, said they wanted six more months to vacate since their children need to finish this academic year. After that, they could be shifted to other schools.
The parents said their children study in corporation schools, and their education would be disturbed if they were moved to a new school in the middle of the year.
“They would also miss school while we shift to the new quarters. We request the Slum Clearance Board to give us six more months, so that the children can finish their annual exams. Meanwhile, we can also look for jobs in and around the new place being allotted to us or move to another location,” one of the residents said.
