Show The Shelby GT500 Who’s Boss With This Classic 1969 Mustang Boss 429

Ford is gearing up to introduce the 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500 at the North American International Auto Show, but fans looking for something older can bid on this 1969 Boss 429.

Set to be offered at Mecum Auctions Kansas City event, this high-performance coupe looks like it just rolled off the assembly line. This is due to the fact that the model is only believed to have been driven for 18,000 miles (28,968 km) since it was sold by Southeast Ford Sales in Parma Heights, Ohio nearly 50 years ago.

Given the low mileage, it isn’t surprising to learn that the car features its original powertrain which consists of a 7.0-liter V8 engine and a four-speed manual transmission. Despite the massive displacement, the car is only rated at 375 hp (279 kW / 380 PS). Of course, like many early muscle cars, the rating is believed to be conservative.

Regardless, the car comes nicely equipped with a competition suspension and a Traction-Lok rear differential. Other performance features include a power steering system and power brakes with front discs.

While the Boss 429 isn’t exactly the prettiest Mustang, this model appears to be in pristine condition. It features a rust-free Wimbledon White exterior and Magnum 500 wheels that are wrapped in Goodyear Polyglas tires.

Moving into the cabin, drivers will find black vinyl seats and a three-spoke steering wheel. The car also has wood trim, a passenger side clock and bright metal accents.

There’s no word on auction estimates, but the buyers will receive an assortment of documents which highlight the car’s authenticity. These include a build sheet, a Kar-Kraft shipping invoice, a 429 shipping log and a letter from Ford mentioning build specifications.
