Vadodara: The alleged involvement of Yashpalsinh Jasvantsinh Solanki, an employee of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC), in the Lok Rakshak Dal (LRD) exam paper leak, sent the civic body into a tizzy on Monday.
Officials had a hard time digging out details of Solanki, who was linked to the civic body.

The confusion was created as the initial reports suggested that Solanki was working with the sanitation department of the VMC. After much efforts, the civic body could ascertain that a person by the name of Yashpalsinh Jasvantsinh Thakor used to work with the health department of the VMC as a public health worker on contract and not with the sanitation department.

The address of the village from where Thakor belonged was same as that of Solanki – Kolvan in Mahisagar district. VMC officials said that while there was a possibility that Solanki and Thakor were the same persons, the civic body could not confirm it.

“We have not received any official communication in this regard from the police. There is a difference in the name of two persons and the photographs being shown by the media do not match those on our records,” said VMC commissioner Ajay Bhadoo.

However, Gandhinagar superintendent of police Mayur Chavda said that Solanki was also known as Thakor and it was the same person.

Thakor had mentioned his cellular number for the records of the civic body. When checked on a caller identification application, the application mentioned that the number was in the name of one Yashpalsinh Solanki.

SOLANKI WORKED BRIEFLY WITH VMC

Vadodara: Yashpalsinh Jaswantsinh Solanki, whose last name is Thakor as per Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) records, had worked only for a brief period with the civic body. He had joined duty in August this year and did not turn up for work since September 20.

Sources in the civic body said that Thakor was recruited as a public health worker on a contract and resumed duties on August 8 at Warasiya urban health centre. Records show that he was a resident of the same area.

Officials said that Thakor stopped coming to work from September 20 without any intimation. As per the rules, if a worker does not turn up for work for a month, his services are automatically considered as terminated. As per the VMC rules, he was to be paid based on the number of days he worked during a month.

OPPOSITION TARGETS BJP

Vadodara: The opposition Congress in the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) targeted the ruling BJP over the issue of a contract worker of the civic body being involved in the Lok Rakshak Dal exam paper leak.

Speaking during the general board meeting of the civic body, opposition members stated that it was embarrassing that an employee of the civic body was named as an accused in such a case. They also demanded that the civic body should take action on this front. The probability of Yashpalsinh Solanki having political support was also raised by the opposition.

The city unit of the Congress party held demonstrations near the Khanderao Market headquarters of the civic body regarding the paper leak. Members of the party blocked the road for a brief period.
