The Congress may be making claims about forming the government in the state but according to the sources its four working presidents are in danger zone this time. Jeetu Patwari contested from Rau seat of Indore district, Ramnivas Rawat contested from Vijaypur of Sheopur district, Bala Bachchan fought from Rajput seat of Badwani district while Surendra Chaudhary was fielded from Naryavali seat of Sagar district.
Patwari contested against BJP candidate Madhu Verma. The voting percentage in Rau has increased from 72 to 73 per cent. Although, it was said that Congress was comfortable on this seat but political experts believe Verma’s entry changed all equations.
Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan also pitched in for for Verma and there is possibility of surprised outcome on this seat. Rawat had to face triangular contest on Vijaypur seat. The voting percentage on this seat has risen from 74 per cent to 78 per cent. Rawat contested against BJP’s Sitaram Adivasi and Babulal Mewara, who is a BJP rebel and recently joined Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).
Sheopur’s former collector Pannalal Solanki is also trying his luck from this seat as an independent candidate. Rawat, who has already won five elections from Vijaypur seat, wanted to contest elections from Sabalgarh seat of Morena. Rawat had to contest from Vijaypur seat as Congress state president Kamal Nath did not change his constituency. Sources say that Rawat is stuck in a soup this time. Bachchan from Rajpur seat had BJP’s Antar Singh as his opponent. Bachchan is facing tough contest on this seat. Bachchan is known to be quite close to Kamal Nath.
Despite the fact that Congress had focused on seats in Nimar region, sources say that condition of Bachchan is is not encouraging. Polling percentage in Rajpur rose from 77% to 79%. Chaudhary had BJP’s Pradeep Lariya as his opponent on Naryavali seat. Lariya had defeated Chaudhary in the previous election with a margin of more than 16,000 votes.
The seat is in BJP’s kitty since 2003. To snatch this seat away Congress state in-charge Deepak Babaria, got it declared that Chaudhary would be made deputy Chief Minister. Sources say that despite this announcement, Chaudhary is facing tough contest here.
