Criminal hurt in encounter, arrested

KANPUR: A criminal was arrested after an encounter with the police as he was trying to flee after committing a theft in Barra late Friday night. The miscreant was identified as Shivam alias Bablu Srivastava and was injured during the encounter. Shivam and and his aide Ajay Valmiki looted Rs 2,200 cash and a mobile phone from one Avinash Dubey in Barra. Dubey immediately alerted the police.
"The police team zeroed trued to apprehend the criminals near Gujaini bypass but the miscreants opened fire at the policemen, when they were asked to surrender," said a police official, preferring anonymity. As the two were trying to flee on a motorcycle, Shivam was hit by a bullet fired by one of the policemen and fell on the ground. Shivam was arrested, while Ajay managed to flee.
