The Air Warriors of Air Force Station, Thanjavur, distributed relief materials to cyclone-affected people of Vedaranyam and Kodiakarai in Nagapattinam district on Sunday.

Around 1,000 kilograms of relief materials consisting of rice, wheat flour, salt, cereals, health mixes, noodles, sanitary items, soaps and medicines were distributed to the people by the Air Warriors.

The materials were distributed at Kodiakarai and at the relief camps at Vedaranyam and Agastiya village, a press release from the Press Information Bureau (Defence Wing), Chennai, said on Sunday. The release said the Indian Air Force Unit at Kodiakarai was badly damaged due to the Gaja cyclone.

In spite of the devastated infrastructure, the unit was able to stand up against the calamity and activate a make-shift helipad which not only brought in some early relief materials but also facilitated Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's visit to the region.
