A man on crutches and wearing a moon boot has interrupted a football game before attacking the security guards sent to remove him. 

Footage of the A-League game, between the Central Coast Mariners and Sydney FC at the Central Coast Stadium on Saturday, showed the pitch invader holding his crutches up to the crowd while standing in front of the goal.

The referee, frustrated with the holdup in play, signalled to security to get the man off the pitch and three staff attempted to escort him off the field.

What began as playful entertainment quickly turned nasty as the man became aggressive towards security guards on the pitch.

Footage showed the man clenching his fists and threatening punches as the guards attempted to remove him.

Reactions on social media were generally critical of the A-League security, wondering how the injured man could get onto the field. 

'They should be sacked. How on earth does a bloke on crutches and wearing a moon boot jumped a fence and make his way on the field,' wrote one viewer.

However, others condemned the man's actions, with some calling him a 'typical coastie'.
