Man held by Delhi police for stabbing 24-year-old relative over old grudge

The Delhi police arrested a man on Saturday evening accused of stabbing his 24-year-old relative to death. Police said the incident was followed by a scuffle between the two over an old grudge, in Northwest district's Jahangir Puri area on Friday night.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Chandan, a resident of Jahangirpuri, who was admitted to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital.

"We received a police control room call around 12.05 am on Saturday from the hospital informing us about a person who was admitted for stab injuries and has been declared brought dead. It was found that a verbal spat took place between the deceased and the accused Rajesh, over a petty issue," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (northwest) Aslam Khan.

Police said it was revealed that the accused and the deceased knew each other. The fight despite being resolved by their friends, Rajesh returned with a knife and suddenly stabbed Chandan in the presence of his friends in a fit of rage.

"We had registered a case of murder against Rajesh (23) who was arrested from Mandi in the evening. He said that the two had an old grudge following which he killed the deceased in a fit of rage," said Khan. Chandan's body will be handed over to his family after the post-mortem examination. Chandan was a resident of Etah in Uttar Pradesh and was married recently.
