NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday alleged that its councillors were assaulted and verbally abused in the house meeting of the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) on November 29, but the police are yet to register a case.
Addressing a press conference, senior AAP leader and east Delhi in-charge Atishi said there is a video of the party councillors being assaulted and abused by the BJP members, which was shared with the police but no action had been taken so far.
According to AAP’s leader in the house, Kuldeep Kumar, the attack took place when they were raising the issue of corruption in house tax collection and midday meal.
“The assault had taken place on November 29 and a police complaint was given the same day. The video clearly shows BJP councillors assaulting and using derogatory words against our councillors,” Atishi alleged.
“It’s been four days but no FIR has been registered in the case. It seems the Delhi Police only registers cases against AAP MLAs and leaders.”
To this, DCP (east) Pankaj Singh said, “We have referred the matter to the mayor.”
