BHOPAL: Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is learnt to have decided to hold a cabinet meeting on December 5, ahead of assembly poll results. The meeting is expected to ratify some administrative and financial decisions, sources said.

However, the government has not released any official circular in the regard. The Congress has objected to the move, saying it will take up the matter with the election commission as a caretaker government cannot take any decision before election results are declared, sources said. The election results in the state are likely to come out on December 11.

Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan reached the state secretariat on Saturday and Sunday to review delay in procurement of paddy crop, sources said. Chouhan also met officials and some ministers during his visit. Sources said CM is sure about party’s victory in the state and the BJP leaders are also confident of winning 130 out of 230 seats.

During the meeting, the chief minister hinted at a possible cabinet meeting on December 5 before leaving for Rajasthan, where he is among party leaders to address poll meetings. While Congress has strongly objected to calling a cabinet meeting to clear pending matters, the BJP has defended the decision, saying there is nothing wrong in it.

“After elections, there is a caretaker government in the state. BJP has no right to take any decision till results are out. We will complain about the matter to the EC,” said Congress state spokesperson J P Dhanopia.

“Congress should first study rules and regulations before raising objections. Is Kamal Nath or Scindia becoming the chief minister? Congress is raising silly questions without knowing whether the party would win or not. BJP is sure to retain power fourth time,” claimed BJP national vice-president Prabhat Jha.

Sources in the secretariat disclosed there were more than 12 schemes which officials had begun implementing without cabinet nod.

“I have not received any letter from the state government for calling a cabinet meeting or from the Congress party against any such decision by the government,” reacted state chief electoral officer (CEO) VL Kantha Rao.
