Tuesday Picks: Ambulance Australia, Fresh Blood Comedy Pilot Season and more
AMBULANCE AUSTRALIA
Season finale ★★★½
7.30pm, Ten
This local remake of the British version has emulated the intensity and storytelling aspect of the original while retaining an Australian flavour. Tonight, a rookie paramedic hits the road for the first time, having graduated from the call centre. Naturally, she's in for a baptism by fire. True to the franchise, and no doubt the reality of the industry, it's the personalities of the crew that bind the whole show together – their humour, their humanity and their unwavering calmness.
FRESH BLOOD COMEDY PILOT SEASON: THE ANGUS PROJECT
★★★★
9.30pm, ABC Comedy
There are just so many beautifully executed great ideas this pilot season that choosing which to progress to series is going to be a tough job. This absolute gem of an odd-couple slacker comedy from Nina Oyama (Utopia) follows an unpaid sports journalist with cerebral palsy (Angus Thompson) and his carer (Oyama) as they create havoc in their sleepy hometown of Bathurst. Rob Sitch is blackly funny as the town's relic of a newspaper editor.
ANXIETY EPIDEMIC WITH VOGUE
★★★
9.30pm, SBS Viceland
Irish model Vogue Williams epitomises the anxiety sufferer who seems, on the outside, to have not a care in the world, but who, on the inside is a sleepless wreck. She knows she's one of many to have caught this malaise from their smartphone, so it should come as no surprise to her that treatment options include turning it off. The agoraphobics and socially anxious people she meets might not help the Instagram-afflicted but they widen the scope of this documentary.
