City police to launch enforcement drive from today

Vizagites, please be cautious if you are parking vehicles at ‘No-parking’ or public places in the city, as your vehicle may be towed away by the city traffic police, apart from imposing fines. Visakhapatnam city police will be conducting strict enforcement drives from December 2, over illegal parking on roads and public places.

The police teams will be also booking cases on commercial establishment owners, if it is found that they have not been using the parking places properly.

According to city Police Commissioner Mahesh Chandra Laddha, many cellars in Vizag city are used for other than parking, which is actually spoiling the overall purpose of parking spaces and creating heavy impact on city traffic.

Plan deviations

He also observed that there were deviations in sanctioned building plans, which is again creating hurdles. Mr. Laddha said that public places are often used for parking. “In the view of all the issues, the police department will start enforcement strictly and take proper disciplinary action,” Mr Laddha said in a release on Saturday.

Explaining about the enforcement, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP-Traffic) K. Prabhakar said that if vehicles are found parked in public places even though there is a parking place or cellar nearby, apart from towing away the vehicle, fine will be also imposed. Mr. Prabhakar also said that people can even complain to the police, if they find any commercial establishment owners, not allowing them to park vehicles at parking place and using it for other purposes or just to their employees. It may be recalled that during June 2016, such drives were conducted by the traffic police, where thousands of cases were booked.
