To protect values of reformation movement, support govt stance on Sabarimala

To protect the values of Kerala reformation movement and to support the State government’s stance on the Supreme Court verdict allowing women of all ages to enter the Sabarimala temple, women will form a human wall in the State from Kasaragod to Thiruvananthapuram on January 1.

The intention of creating the human wall on New Year day is to declare that ‘Kerala will not be allowed to be turned into a lunatic asylum,’ Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said after a meeting of social organisations here on Saturday.

Support for govt

All secular and democratic forces who supported the values of reformation movement should participate in the initiative, Mr. Vijayan said. Representatives of 12 organisations who attended the meeting had supported the government’s stance. “The aim of the women wall is to seek the attention of the nation,” he said.

A general council with Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan as chairman, KPMS general secretary Punnala Sreekumar as convener, and K. Somaprasad as treasurer has been formed to protect the values of the reformation movement. A 12-member executive committee has also been formed. To a query on the Nair Service Society (NSS) not turning up for the meeting, the Chief Minister said: “The NSS should have attended the meeting.”

Expresses apprehension

Earlier, inaugurating the meeting, the Chief Minister expressed apprehension over the move by some forces to destroy the values of the reformation movement.

Spelling out the government’s stance on Sabarimala, the Chief Minister said restrictions were imposed on Sabarimala, Nilackal and Erumely when attempts were made to attack women pilgrims even before the pilgrimage season began.
