CHANDIGARH: The ministry of home affairs (MHA) has recommended to reduce promotion quota of Chandigarh inspectors in the post of DSPs from 80% to 50%. It also wants the deputation quota in DSPs' post be fixed 50% so that any officer can come on deputation as DSP in the Chandigarh police, which was earlier for Punjab, Haryana and UT officers only.
The rules framed by the MHA have been forwarded to the UT administration, which has now sought suggestions and objections of public within 30 days.
As per MHA's draft rules, 23 posts of DSPs can be filled 50% through promotion and the rest through deputation.
The rules, if approved, will weaken Punjab and Haryana's claim over administrative and police posts in Chandigarh.
For promotion, MHA draft rules read, "From amongst the inspectors of Chandigarh police in pay band-3 of Rs 10,300-34,800 with grade pay of Rs 4,800 with six years regular service in the cadre after appointment thereto and who have been granted "G" list. The government will prepare a "G" list in the grade of inspectors, considered fit for promotion to the rank of DSP from time to time. The names in this list prepared at one time shall be arranged according to their inter se seniority. (sic)"
