Heralding A Paradigm Shift Through Women Power
With a growing consciousness among companies across sectors to give women employees/aspirants a common ground, the move has seen an obvious welcoming nod from the society & corporates
“Any society that fails to harness the energy and creativity of its women is at a huge disadvantage in the modern world”….by Tian Wei.
Women have been breaking the glass ceiling across professions. Slowly and steadily they are finding ground in sectors traditionally regarded as male bastions. India is no exception to this phenomenon either. This is relevant keeping in mind that while there has been a decline in labour force participation rate for women from 37 per cent in the year 2004-05 to 28 per cent in the year 2016, there has been a considerable rise in women urban workers from 13.4 per cent in 1972-73 to 16.2 per cent in 2015-16.
With a growing consciousness among companies across sectors to give women employees/aspirants a common ground, the move has seen an obvious welcoming nod from the society & corporates.
A similar initiative to hire women employees at the shop floor is gaining prominence in the industry. Shop floors have always been associated with burly men as heavy lifting was involved most of the times. But with the advancement of technology and introduction of mechanized processes, these activities have to a large extent paved the way for women employees to take over.
The whole idea of hiring women at such positions is not just limited to empowering them but also stems from the fact that women are known to have an eye for details and are great at multi- tasking, traits that are most essential at the shop floor. The need of the hour is not just to create suchopportunities, butto create favorable conditions for women employees by bringing in fair policies, promoting safe working conditions and flexible work timings.
Today, the initiative to infuse young woman in the engineering and techno-commercial led roles has got acceptance amongst the manufacturing industry and now, female graduates are being hired for production, electrical and technical services departments which were traditionally considered male oriented roles.
Focus on female empowerment does not end by only hiring them in the system but also empowering them by taking special care during their transition process within the organization.Companies have put in place a process, where female workers undergo induction &orientation which enabled them to work on engineering and techno commercials projects. These companies are also putting in place an appropriate grooming and hygiene system, including the necessary changes to the infrastructure, which best suits the needs of females.
“The Glass Ceiling Effect”, which is an invisible barrier that keeps a given demographic from rising beyond a certain level in a hierarchy is being slowly but surely shattered in today’s day and age. Now, Corporates are going above and beyond for empowering female staff through training and building their competencies which will enablethem succeed in their given role and take up leadership positions in future.
As great ideas create great organizational environment, the HR mantra for organizations is focused on “Talent Hiring Strategy” as well as the overall “Leadership Support”.Working on principle of “Enable, Empower, Excel”,which aims to build strong gender diversity is going to be the next big trend in the evolution of the corporate workforce.
