GRP officials said that till the time no parking contractor would be deputed they would not let any vehicle park here due to the security reasons.

Taking notice of the Daily Post news regarding the free parking at the Ludhiana Railway Station which is causing threat to the security of railway passengers, the Government Railway Police has to put barricades and ropes around whole parking area on the front side parking of the railway station. But this is no solution of problem and it’s a sheer harassment for the railway passengers mainly who have to board the train by parking vehicle at the railway station and to come back. As GRPF officials on the duty are not letting any vehicle to enter the Ludhiana Railway Station which has also created a traffic jam outside the railway station as people are arguing over it with. The railway passengers who came to drop their family members and to board the train themselves are facing a lot of the harassment. Garima Chibber, IT professional rue, “We have to board the Shatabdi Express train and we have to come back by tom evening. We always use to park the car at railway station parking but today they are not letting our and others car in saying due to security reasons we cannot park  vehicles here. We have a lot of luggage and we don’t know what to do as we came from Phagwara to board the train.” While other passengers rue that the railway authorities should depute concerned officials to keep a check on  vehicles being park at the railway parking. But they can’t stop vehicles from parking at the railway station as then how railway passengers will come and board trains. Not everyone belong to the city.  The GRP police station official requesting anonymity revealed, “The duty of outer side of railway station comes under their jurisdiction. If any casualty takes place due to negligence of higher railway authorities we will be held responsible. So in order to avoid any kind of casualty at the railway station we will not let any vehicle park at entrance parking as there is no one to keep a check on vehicles.”The GRP officials further rue, “Till the time higher railway authorities would not depute any parking contractor or official to look after the parking we will not let anyone park vehicle as life of passengers is more important than harassment they are facing.” However, the railway officials at Ludhiana Railway Station are saying that GRP has asked the higher railway authorities to depute someone on the parking but they didn’t pay the heed to their request. GRP has taken this decision and trying to put a pressure on the higher railway authorities through this decision as when passengers will face harassment than the higher authorities definitely would have to arrange a parking contractor soon. The union members alleged that higher railway authorities has intentionally kept the rates of tender notice high due to which no one coming forward to take railway parking contract. They further alleged earlier also no one came to take over the tender notice due to the problem of high prices quoted in it. The Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Feroezpur Division, Vivek Kumar was found unaware about the new development of stopping the vehicles to park at the Ludhiana Railway Station. Regarding contract, DRM is still on his stand as he said, “We have given tender notice and we will hire a contractor that would be suitable. In the haphazardness we cannot hire anyone and prices quoted are genuine. We are trying to hire the contractor as soon as possible for passengers welfare.”
