Flash mob, band show usher in differently abled day fete

International Day of Persons with Disabilities to be observed in city on Sunday

A flash mob and a band performance were the pre-event highlights of International Day of Persons with Disabilities observed under the auspices of the Samagra Shiksha, Thiruvananthapuram, on Friday.

A proclamation rally was taken out from the house of a differently abled student, Sreemandh, near the Mukkolakkal temple. The rally, which concluded at East Fort, was welcomed by a band performance by children of the autism centre at the South Urban Resource Centre of the Samagra Shiksha at Sathram school here. Actor Joby and Samagra Shiksha and Education department officials were present.

A flash mob by students of Sanskrit college and differently abled students of Cotton Hill Higher Secondary School for Girls was held. A song written by resource teacher Usha was followed by cultural programmes by the students.

Programmes

The formal inauguration of the day will be held on Saturday. Ahead of the inauguration, a procession will be taken out from the house of a differently abled student Athira at Kalady. Corporation Education standing committee chairperson S. Sudarsanan will inaugurate the celebrations. A motivational talk by Nincy Mariam who has overcome her disabilties will be held.

Games and other activities will be held for the students. Cultural programmes will be held in the afternoon. The curtain will come down on the celebrations at 4 p.m.
