VARANASI: Speakers at Prayavaran Kumbh, hosted by Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth (MGKV) as part of Prayagraj Kumbh-2019, on Saturday expressed concern over excessive exploitation of natural resources that was giving rise to natural disasters.
RSS sahsarkaryavah Suresh Soni and Sangh’s frontal organization Vigyan Bharti’s Jayant Sahasrabuddhey shared the dais as chief speaker and subject initiator, respectively.
Soni said, “Excessive exploitation of natural resources by humans is increasing environmental threats. Earth is like a mother who gives birth to a child and feeds her. However, today’s human being is sucking blood of mother Earth without giving anything back.”
“This is resulting in extinction of many species ofanimals and plants while tributaries of rivers are getting lost, glaciers are melting and sea water level is alarming,” said Soni adding, “climatic imbalance is increasing number of diseases.”
He also mentioned revelations by European scientists and environmentalists in 1960s about how agricultural pesticides had ended many species of birds, which led to beginning of the tradition of observing Earth Day in 1970. He said, “All the Earth summits discuss issues for deteriorating climate, but the deterioration has continued. There is a need to assess the past to see how consumerism had been promoted for the consumption of products.”
Soni said, “India didn’t face any environmental crisis because here botanical properties, five elements, human and all living beings were considered as an integrated part of life. Humans take responsibility of taking care of natural resources as the latter have no capability to explain their problems and pains like them,” he said asking people to go through ‘Bhoomi Sutra’ of Atharwaveda to know about it.
