Two persons, including a pharmacist with an Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) dispensary, has been arrested for allegedly illegally procuring medicines and selling them, the police said on Friday.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Ram Gopal Naik said Chandra Prakash (33) and Praveen Mangla have been arrested after a tip-off on Thursday from Badarpur.
Prakash, who belonged to Rajasthan and was a resident of Faridabad, has a diploma in pharmacy from a college in Jaipur, the police said, adding that he started his career in Mumbai in 2008.
Worker at ESIC
He was currently working at an ESIC dispensary in Okhla, Mr. Naik said.
Mangla worked as an assistant at chemist shops for several years before setting up his own chemist shop, which allegedly failed.
“Praveen came in contact with Prakash and started purchasing medicines from him, which were illegally procured from ESIC dispensaries. They then sold the medicines in the market,” Mr. Naik said.
Car recovered
The police claim to have recovered 87 packets of medicines which were not meant for sale worth ₹2.25 lakh and a car used in commission of crime.
