PATNA: The Shastri Nagar police have registered an FIR against JD (U) MLA Amrendra Kumar Pandey, who had allegedly sought an extortion of Rs 50 lakh from Akhilesh Kumar Jaiswal, managing director (MD) of a private construction firm engaged in repairing and broadening a road in Gopalganj district.
SSP Manu Maharaaj had earlier said that no FIR was not lodged against the MLA due to lack of evidence. However, city SP (central) D Amarkesh on Saturday said the lawmaker was booked on November 28 itself when the matter came to light.
Amarkesh said police were awaiting call detail records of suspected cellphone numbers. “The MLA has not been quizzed yet,” Amarkesh said.
Pandey represents Kuchaikot assembly seat in Gopalganj, while Jaiswal is MD of SAJ Infracon Project Private Limited. The firm is involved in repairing a road between Bhagepatti and Bankatta in Gopalganj district.
Jaiswal said the MLA’s claim that he knew him for the last 10 years was totally wrong. “I met him only twice,” Jaiswal added.
