Second edition of green congress begins today

Students from the flood-hit districts who will participate in the second edition of the city Corporation’s green congress reached here on Friday. Mayor V.K. Prashant, Health standing committee chairman K. Sreekumar and Green Army volunteers received the students at the Thiruvananthapuram Central railway station in the afternoon. ‘Rebuilding Kerala - environmental possibilities and challenges’ is the focus of this edition of the congress that will begin on Saturday. Twenty students from the flood-affected districts of Idukki, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Thrissur and Ernakulam will share their experiences.

Interactions

Interactions will be held between them and the green army volunteers in the city. The ideas and suggestions on rebuilding and disaster preparedness put forward by the participants will be collated and presented to the State government.

The Mayor inaugurated a cycle rally organised by the Indus Cycling Embassy in the morning to spread awareness of the Green Congress. Green Army volunteers from various schools in the city participated in the rally.

Cultural programmes will be held as part of the congress, with competitions in painting, photography, documentary filmmaking, and quiz. The competitions will be under the broad themes of health, sanitation, waste management, basic infrastructure, disaster management, water-energy conservation and agriculture.
