PROVIDENCE -- Peter Cehlarik's power-play goal with 4:33 left lifted the Providence Bruins to a 2-1 win over the Charlotte Checkers at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Friday night.
Zane McIntyre stopped 25 shots, with several key stops late, as the P-Bruins posted their third straight win.
Charlotte, which sits atop the American Hockey League standings, jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal by Andrew Poturalski at 15:57 of the first period.
The P-Bruins, depleted by NHL callups, tied the game on a goal by captain Jordan Szwarz at 1:27 of the second period. Anders Bjork, sent down by Boston on Thursday, started the sequence leading to the goal by accelerating into the Charlotte zone and passing to Ryan Fitzgerald. He whipped the puck across the ice to Szwarz, who beat Charlotte goalie Scott Darling (21 saves).
With Josh Wesley in the box for interference, Providence went up 2-1 on Cehlarik's goal at 15:27 of the third period. Cameron Hughes made a heady play to find Cehlarik, who was uncovered between the faceoff circles, and he fired the puck past Darling.
The P-Bruins play at Bridgeport on Saturday night at 7, then host the Checkers on Sunday afternoon at 3.
