Audi Claims Q4 SUV Will Be More Than A Coupe Version Of The Q3

Following the introduction of the Q8 and E-Tron earlier this year, Audi’s high-riding vehicle family will gain another new member: the Q4.

Previewed by the TT Offroad Concept in 2014, the design of the coupe-SUV has been finalized, and it will have an undisclosed feature meant to differentiate it from its closest sibling, the Q3, as well as other SUVs made by Audi.

It’s “a bit more than a coupe version of the Q3, to my eyes a lot more”, the brand’s exterior design chief, Andreas Mindt, told Autocar. The Audi exec wouldn’t say anything else about the upcoming SUV, but it is expected to launch in 2019, with an MSRP of approximately £28,000 ($35,778/€31,631) in the United Kingdom.

Believed to be at least 4,500 mm (177 in) long, or some 110 mm (4.3 in) longer than the outgoing Q3, the Q4 should offer plenty of legroom for passenger sitting at the back. Taller occupants could, however, struggle for headroom, due to the rakish profile of the roofline.

As for the rest of the interior, it will benefit from high-end materials and the latest technology features. Among them, users will in all likelihood find a 9.2-inch infotainment system, full-HD instrument displays, gesture control, wireless smartphone charging and others.

Underpinned by the VW Group’s versatile MQB platform, the Q4 will be powered by Audi’s usual four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. The range-topping model, which should be named the RS Q4, could use the 2.5-liter five-banger from the RS3 if it gets the green light, while a PHEV variant, with a zero-emission range of up to 50 km (31 miles), could be in the works.
