Of the total sum, Rs 3.5 lakh was for Kerala and the remaining Rs 2 lakh for Karaikal, a press release from the samajam said here.
A team from the samajam, led by its president Dinesh Mangalatte, gave the cheque for the amount to Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy, the press release said.
The celebration of Onam festival this year has been cancelled by the samajam in view of the situation in Kerala, the release said.
