They're currently waiting on their $8 million mega-mansion to be built in Byron Bay, with the pad being so large it has been compared to an airport and even a shopping centre.

And in the meantime, Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky have snapped up another home in the nearby suburb of Suffolk Park, to live in while they wait.

Having private beach access, the home was purchased by the couple for a cool $4.3 million in July, PS Sydney reports.

With their daughter India Rose, six, and twin sons Tristan and Sasha, four, the couple have settled into the Balinese-inspired house which looks out onto the pristine Tallow Beach.

The Daily Telegraph reports that after purchasing the property, the pair quickly turned the rundown beach house into a luxury home with a lick of white paint, high-end security and huge Canary Island date palms.

It is rumoured that Chris' parents, Leonie and Craig, will move into Suffolk Park pad when the couple's palatial property is finally completed.

Chris is close with his parents, who brought a four-bedroom house in Byron last year for slightly more than $2.5 million.

The Broken Head mansion meanwhile, which has been likened to a military bunker due to its sprawling size and modernist design, was purchased by the couple for $7 million in 2014.

Construction is expected to finish early next year and the completed property will feature a gym, steam room and a 50 metre infinity pool which overlooks the iconic Seven Mile Beach.

Chris and Elsa, who married in 2010 after meeting through a dialect coach, moved to the coastal town from Los Angeles four years ago.

Last year, Elsa, who starred in Fast and the Furious, revealed to News.com.au that the family moved to get away from the paparazzi.

'We couldn't take it anymore,' the Spanish born star said.

'In LA, my kids had a camera in front of them all the time and it made my daughter (India) become very scared of photos. She didn't want pictures taken and didn't want to be in photos.'
