GHAZIABAD: Two youths were arrested on Saturday for allegedly slitting the throat of a friend who had been harassing the sister of one of them for the past several months and did not stop despite repeated warnings.
The accused have been identified as Akash (23) and Shivam (20), residents of Arthala. They took their friend Rohit (18), a resident of Sahibabad, on a bike ride and slit his throat on the way. His body was found in a field in Tronica City on November 20.
A guard of a nearby factory had spotted Rohit’s body on the field and informed police, who had lodged a complaint against unidentified persons. Nine days later, Rohit’s father Raj Kumar, who had been frantically looking for his son, saw a photo of his body on the police’s social media account, where it had been uploaded for identification. Raj approached the cops, following which a section of kidnapping for murder was added to the FIR.
Akash, who is a sanitation worker at a factory, has told police that Rohit, an auto-rickshaw driver, would often harass his 14-year-old sister and didn’t stop despite repeated warnings. Police said Akash and his friend Shivam, a private firm employee, took Rohit on a bike saying they would drink liquor and slit his throat on the way.
SSP Upendra Kumar Agrawal said: “The police subsequently put Rohit’s phone number on surveillance after getting it from his father. The cops found that he had last spoken to Akash and Rohit on the evening of November 18. The location of their phone was also traced to a spot near the crime scene.”
Akash and Rohit were arrested and during questioning, they apparently confessed to their crime. They said they had picked up Rohit from near ITS College in Mohan Nagar on the pretext of having liquor. After a drinking session, they made him sit in the middle on their motorcycle and slit his throat on their way to Tronica City.
“The two later dumped his body on a field and fled the spot,” Agrawal added.
