Immigration officials at Kempegowda International Airport arrested a 28-year-old Bangladeshi national who was scheduled to fly to the UAE on an Indian passport.
The accused, Sujan Kumar Das, claimed that he was a resident of Akilpur in Bangladesh and had crossed the border into Tripura in 2003. He worked as a construction worker for a few years. He applied for a PAN and an Aadhaar card after which he got a passport in July 2017. With the help of a friend, he was able to get a work permit for the UAE.
At the immigration counter, officer D.K. Singh found that though Das claimed to be from West Bengal, his dialect was not from the region.
Sujan Kumar Das has been booked under various sections of the Indian Passport Act and remanded in judicial custody, said the police.
