Bitcoin fraud case: PI Dabhi surrenders in court
tnn | Dec 2, 2018, 04:00 ISTSurat: L B Dabhi, a suspended police inspector and one of the six accused in the Rs14 crore bitcoin fraud case, surrendered in a court here on Saturday. Crime branch officers requested the court to remand him in police custody for 14 days. However, the court remanded him in police custody until December 5.
Dabhi allegedly helped bitcoin racketeers to get investors and himself had transacted a huge amount through bitcoin wallet, crime branch sources said. Police have already arrested mastermind Rohit Kapopara, but Dabhi was on the run ever since the offence was registered on June 22. Dabhi was posted as police inspector in anti-corruption bureau in Bharuch when the offence was registered. He was not found at home and other locations when police looked for him.
An arrest warrant against him was issued by a local court a month ago and he was also declared an absconder. Police were to start procedures to seize his property if he continued to avoid arrest any further.
Dabhi was booked along with Kapopara, Altaf, Nizar, Umesh and Rahul at Sarthana police station on June 22. The case was later transferred to the crime branch.
