BHUBANESWAR: Former Union minister Dilip Ray and senior BJP leader Bijoy Mohapatra resigned from the party on Friday, sparking speculations about a realignment in political circles even as the saffron outfit rushed to limit the damage.
"Joining BJP was a mistake. In the initial years I undertook many political activities. But gradually, and particularly after the Kandhamal by-election in October 2014, I was not involved in party activities," said Mohapatra, who along with Ray sent a joint resignation letter to party president Amit Shah. The two were BJP's national executive committee members and had joined the party together in 2009. Ray, who is the BJP's Rourkela MLA, has also resigned from the assembly. In their one-page resignation letter, they wrote that they were being treated like "furniture" and "dirty tricks" were adopted to run them down.
