'Accused entered into written contract for murder'

PUNE: One revolver, two pistols and 24 bullets were seized from the two accused arrested in connection with the contract killing of a woman in Vadgaonsheri. The Pune City Police Crime Branch officials informed a court on Friday that the accused had entered in a written contract with a Delhi-based woman, also arrested, to kill the Vadgaonsheri lady.

The court extended the police custody of arrested accused Shivlal alias Shivaji Babulal Rao (39) and his son Mukesh alias Monti Shivlal (19), both from Delhi, till December 5.

The duo allegedly shot dead Ekta Brijesh Bhati (38) outside her flat in Anand Park area of Vadgaonsheri around 8 am on November 21. Her husband Brijesh Bhati (42) lodged the FIR in this regard with Chandan Nagar police station. The police arrested her husband’s friend Sandhya Puri for allegedly issuing the contract for her murder.

On the same day, Shivlal and his son Mukesh fired at Crime Branch Police Inspector Gajanan Pawar.

According to the police, the accused procured the weapons from a man from Andhra Pradesh. They learnt how to steal a bike from the Internet and then used the tactic to steal a bike in Pune which they used for committing the crime. They also viewed videos of firing pistols on the Internet and practised firing at their native place in Rajasthan, Police Inspector Raghunath Jadhav, who is investigating the case, submitted to the Court of Judicial Magistrate (First Class) GK Nandanwar.

Defence lawyers BA Aloor and Tosif Shaikh represented the accused and opposed the prosecution's demand for police custody.
