The Study Lecole Internationale School in Kalapet is among the select institutions chosen by the NITI Aayog Innovation Mission for establishing Atal Tinkering Laboratories (ATLs) towards cultivating scientific temper in young minds.
The Mission aims to encourage one million children in India to turn neoteric innovators by fostering a culture of innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship in schools. The ATLs would provide an enabling environment where “students can meet the challenges of the competitive smart world by nurturing their innovative spirits through technology.”
Dr. K.M. Cherian, founder-chairman, The Study Lecole Internationale School, said labs such as the ATLs are the need of the hour and technology should reach each and every home in this modern competitive world.
The ATL, he hoped, would greatly help train aspirant scientists by fostering curiosity, creativity, imagination and competitive spirits in young minds. Alice Abraham Chacko, school principal, termed it an honour for The Study to be one among the 1,500 schools selected across the country to establish an ATL.
Shaping their ideas
The ATL would feature open-ended innovation workspaces which are equipped with state-of-the art technologies such as 3D printers, robotics, sensor technology kits, Internet of Things and miniaturised electronics to enable students to learn and solve local community problems using emerging technologies, she said.
As envisaged by the Mission, the ATLs would be a work space where young minds can give shape to their ideas through hands on do-it-yourself mode; and learn innovation skills.
Children will get a chance to work with tools and equipment to understand the concepts of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).
These ATLs would also contain educational and learning ‘do it yourself’ kits and equipment on – science, electronics, robotics, open source microcontroller boards and sensors.
