Hail could be on its way to Brisbane

Brisbane and the Gold Coast are in for a chance of severe thunderstorms this afternoon, the Bureau of Meteorology has warned.

“Damaging to destructive wind gusts, large hail and heavy rainfall are possible over the south-east coast district this afternoon and early evening,” a Bureau warning said.

However the storms are predicted to be "very isolated".

After a scorching start to the week, where Brisbane recorded its hottest day since 2014 (37.9 degrees), tempretures have cooled to the high 20s duirng Friday.

More than a dozen towns and cities across the state have broken ‘all time’ heat records, the Bureau said.

Among them are Cairns, Innisfail, Townsville, Proserpine and Mackay.
