The Telangana government and British Council have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen educational and cultural cooperation and support the knowledge ambitions and economic growth of Telangana.
The signatories, Alan Gemmell, Director, British Council India, and Mr. Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary, Information Technology, participated in the ceremony in the presence of Chief Secretary S.K. Joshi.
A release of British Council said, in the field of education, the MoU seeks to develop the skills of faculty and teachers from government universities and industrial training institutes across the State, expand the existing collaboration through initiatives like the Indo-British Fund, UK-India Education Research Initiative and the Newton Bhabha programme.
The Council will facilitate student mobility between universities and, towards this end, it has offered scholarships to four women from Telangana to pursue higher studies in science, technology, engineering and maths. They are Tejaswini Ganji, Hameed Amtul, Mounika Gurram and Faria Athar.
Collaborations will be developed in the field of art and culture at the British Council in Hyderabad which will serve as a cultural hub for learners, entrepreneurs, visitors from UK and people of Hyderabad.
Mr. Gemmell said the MoU will give the Council an opportunity to reach out to the people of Telangana. This year the Council aimed to inspire youngsters from across Telangana and India to build a relationship with the UK for the next 70 years.
Mr. Joshi hoped that the MoU will expand the scope of the Council’s engagements in developing the skill of young people.
