BHUBANESWAR: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated career counselling centres at 10 state-run universities and 52 colleges on Thursday.
"The creation of career counselling centres in colleges and universities will help increase the employability and skill output of our students," Naveen said. He also attended a workshop on Internationalisation of Higher Education organised by the higher education department during the day.
The chief minister said Odisha had steadily progressed to become a hub of higher education and research over the past two decades. "With a judicious synergy of private, central and state higher education institutions in place, the state is marching towards its ultimate objective of achieving excellence in imparting knowledge, creating new knowledge and developing global competencies in its youth," he added.
He further said the Odisha Higher Education Project for Excellence and Equity, with loan assistance of World Bank, was a transformative initiative to strengthen capacity and bring governance reforms in higher education. "I am happy to learn that 182 MoUs have been signed between our universities and national and international institutes of repute for collaborative research, exchange programmes and knowledge partnership with industries," said Naveen.
He said the Kalinga Sikhya Sathi Yojana (a loan assistance scheme at one per cent interest), provision of laptops, green passage scheme for orphaned students and several other schemes had been helpful in providing access and inclusivity to education.
On the occasion, Naveen also handed appointment letters to 135 lecturers who will join different government colleges. Congratulating the young teachers, he said, "Now you belong to one of the noblest professions. I hope you will work with dedication to play a role in fulfilling the aspirations of our students."
