BENGALURU: Tension prevailed near Bellandur Lake as smoke billowed from near the waterbody on Thursday afternoon.
Firemen rushed to the spot and found a few tyres had caught fire. The blaze was put out.

Not within lake boundary: BDA

Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) officials said the fire started in the Iblur firing range of the Army Service Corps (ASC) near the lake and not within the lake’s boundary. However, local residents panicked as they initially thought smoke was emanating from the lakebed.

BDA engineer Shivakumar said the fire actually broke out inside the army area. Target practice in the firing range may have caused the blaze.

Fire brigade officers said they received a call from ASC.

BDA officials said they'll conduct an inspection of the waterbody on Friday morning.
