5 sentenced to 7-year, 15 to 2-year jail terms

ARA: A special court on Friday sentenced five accused to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment with Rs12,000 fine and other 15 to two years’ prison with Rs2,000 fine for rioting and striping and parading a middle-aged woman on the road at Bihiya, 23km from Ara, in Bhojpur district on August 20.

The incident took place after the body of an Intermediate student, Bimlesh Sah, was found on the railway tracks near the woman’s house in Dafli locality of the town. The mob, suspecting the woman’s involvement in Bimlesh’s death under mysterious circumstances, had also set her house on fire.


Kishori Yadav, Vinod Kumar Keshari alias Madai Keshari, Mumtaj Ansari, Vishnu Kumar and Sikandar Kumar got a 7-year jail term while Ranjit Kumar, Rambali Kumar, Satyanarayan Prasad, Lakhan Kumar, Rajesh Sharma, Muni Sah, Shubham Sharma, Amit Kumar Jaiswal, Sonu Kumar, Vikki Singh, Suraj Kumar, Vikash Rajak, Rakesh Rai, Raja Sah and Babua Ji were jailed for two years under various sections of the IPC and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.


The court of R C Dwivedi at Ara civil court also asked the state government through Bhojpur DM to give protection as well as compensation to the victim under the SC/ST Act, said special public prosecutor Satyendra Kumar Singh Dara.


According to sources, Bimlesh’s 13-year-old sister Shobha Kumari was so shocked over her brother’s death that she also died at her native village Damodarpur under the Sahpur police station area soon.
