Haryana Public Works Department Minister Rao Narbir Singh on Thursday said he will appeal to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for the realignment of the proposed six-lane highway through the Aravalli Biodiversity Park here.
Mr. Singh said the proposed road — connecting Delhi-Gurugram Expressway and Mehrauli-Gurugram Road, and passing through the biodiversity park — was aimed at easing the load on the two roads and that his Department had role in it.
However, he decided to write to the NHAI to realign the road since it will cause damage to the environment.
NASSCOM, an apex body of Indian IT industry, had written to Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar and Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari earlier this month seeking reconsideration of the proposal. Many schools have also come forward to lend support to the cause.
Mr. Singh added that the proposal to connect Gurugram-Faridabad Road and Sohna Road through a road passing through Aravallis was also scrapped following protests. The 16-km stretch was to connect Bandhwari village (Gurugram Faridabad Road) to Damdama Lake (Sohna Road). He said the road was planned to ease traffic on the two roads but the project was scrapped after the residents objected. He said the road was earlier planned keeping in view the demand of the locals.
