MANGALURU: Mangalore University has added another feather to its cap by making it to the QS World University Rankings, a global ranking initiative sponsored by the University of Waikato, New Zealand. In the results just published, Mangalore University is ranked number 43 among Indian universities, out of 78 universities evaluated, and is at the 175th position among Brics universities out of the 500 universities evaluated.
The QS World University Rankings: Asia, published since 2009, is based on key indicators including academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty-student ratio, staff with PhDs, citations per paper, papers per faculty member, international research network, international faculty members and students.
The international research network has been introduced as a new feature this year to measure the diversity and richness of transnational research partnerships.
In the 2019 edition of QS rankings, Mangalore University performed among the top 80% in the QS world university rankings: Asia. At 104 regionally, the papers per faculty indicators is the strongest one for Mangalore University.
Its research intensity has been declared as very high, and its subject area focus as comprehensive.
Presence of international students at the university has also added value to its ranking, with a regional mean of 5.8. Mangalore University has an A+ ranking from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council.
It is ranked at number 2 in chemical sciences as per the SCOPUS rankings.
All these testify the upward curve of the university as it readies itself for NAAC reaccreditation in 2019, said A M Khan, registrar, Mangalore University. With the governments and even UGC directing universities to mobilise resources on their own, such rankings matter when the university approaches industry for collaboration, Khan told TOI.
