Maharashtra to implement 7th pay commission from Jan 2019

MUMBAI: Junior finance minister Deepak Kesarkar said that the state government will implement the seventh pay commission from January 2019.
Kesarkar was replying in the legislative council to the issue that was raised by MLC Kapil Patil. Kesarkar said that while the state government had appointed a committee under retired bureaucrat KP Bakshi on the issue and their report is expected to soon, the state will not wait for their report and the implementation will begin from January.
Patil asked whether as per the central government's norms the government staff in the state will get a five day week, to which Kesarkar said that whether to replicate the Centre's policy on the working days will be decided by the Bakshi committee.
The arrears of Seventh Pay Commission will be given with retrospective effect from January 2016, while the dearness allowance will be given retrospectively for the last 14 month.
The state government will require Rs 20,000 crore to pay 7th pay commission and its arrears from January 2016 from which the pay band width was revised. There are nearly 19 lakh government employees and the government requires Rs 5000 crore annually to revise the pay band.
