JAIPUR: Amidst police claims of intense patrolling during election, a salesman, working at a mobile phone showroom situated at Amrapali Circle in Vaishali Nagar area, was attacked and robbed of nearly Rs 5.36 lakh by three armed assailants late on Thursday evening. The three masked men first intercepted the victim who was riding his bike, hit him with the butt of a revolver and decamped with the bag containing cash.

The victim, identified as Syed Rizwan, was going to Defence Colony, with the day’s collection from the three showrooms of mobile phones, to deliver the money to the owner of the showrooms. “He was intercepted by the three armed assailants. After stopping him, the three started thrashing him and also hit his head with the butt of the revolver while the victim tried resisting the robbery bid,” said a senior police officer on Friday.

People on the road remained mute spectators and were in panic. Some people started running away from the spot. “It appears that the robbers had done a recce, as they were aware about the time when the employee Syed, used to return and visit his employer’s house for depositing the cash,” said an officer.

Almost after half-an-hour, a team of police officers reached the spot. “The victim got some stitches on his head and was unconscious. We have been collecting the footage from the private CCTV cameras installed at the ATMs and other public places near the spot where the incident took place,” the officer added.

Similar incidents like the murder of a CA aspirant on the Jhotwara flyover, were witnessed in the past in the city.
