MUMBAI: US placement offers at IIT-Bombay are likely to come from at least three firms. Placements across the IITs are set to start from Saturday. At IIT-Bombay, around 385 companies have registered, up from last year's 304. The increase is likely to help a surge in offers.
At the Powai institute, over 1,650 students have registered for this year's placements. A student said the most coveted US offers are likely to be made by Rubrik, Microsoft and BNY Mellon. A California-based enterprise was also said to be on the list of recruiters, but there was no confirmation.
The US firms are likely to offer a base package of $100,000 and incentives, said students. Several global companies are participating in this year's placement process, a majority of them being from Japan and Europe, said a professor in charge of placements. While Japanese firms are increasingly picking students from Indian campuses, the number of European companies that visit too are on the rise. Last year, 75 international offers were made to students.
Several first-time recruiters, some international, are set to visit IIT-Bombay for placements. Among public sector undertakings, four have registered with the institute and the count is likely to increase. Two PSUs have already picked students from the campus.
This year, the number of pre-placement offers has gone up to 167 from last year's 100. A student said Samsung Korea alone has picked up 10 students from the computer science and engineering batch. Students who have already accepted offers are not allowed to sit for placements.
For the first time, the institute is conducting a test for students who have registered with the placement office. "The best of three test scores will be share with firms. The test will be set, monitored and evaluated by a faculty team. It was prepared and structured based on the experience of various company tests," said the placement office.
