RANCHI: Yoga guru Ramdev on Friday claimed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will lose trust among the people if it could not get the construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya started while it remained in power in the Centre and Uttar Pradesh.
Ramdev, who came to Ranchi to participate in the valedictory session of the two-day global agriculture and food summit being organised by the BJP led NDA government in Jharkhand, said a temple dedicated to Lord Ram must be built in Ayodhya because he is a role model for millions of Indians and the “soul of India”.
Ramdev’s comments came a few days after the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and other Hindu parties held a Dharma Mahasabha in Ayodhya, organized a rally and raised the pitch for temple’s construction and got the backing of political parties like Shiv Sena.
“(Lord) Ram is not a political subject but the pride and soul of this country. I am his follower like others. A temple or a monument must be built in Ayodhya because he is worshipped by millions as a role model. Some see him as a great king, others as an obedient son, perfect human being and so on,” he said.
Calling himself apolitical, Ramdev, however, added: “After all the protests that happened recently, if the BJP, which has governments in Uttar Pradesh and New Delhi, will lose credibility among people if it cannot build the temple. Now, it is for the party to decide its future course.”
